AN EFFORT TO REVIVE BOOKS IN CEBUANO
About Us

We build this institution so that we Cebuano-speaking Filipinos will be recognize that we do exist in this world. It is very frustrating that despite of the fact that the Cebuano language is one of the top 50 biggest languages in the world, nobody in Canada knows about our existence. Why? Because we are not educated to learn more about our native tongue. Many of us only know that we are "Bisaya", a dialect. Be aware that the word "Bisaya" is a generic name of all the inhabitans in the Visayas, constituting Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Aklanon and Waray. Cebuano is the technical and official name of our language, spoken by almost 20 million Filipinos in Southern Philippines.

WHO WE ARE

VISAYAS AND MINDANAO SOCIETY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA or BISDAK-Bisayang Daku

We decided to name our organization as Visayas and Mindanao Society in BC because our members come from these islands in Southern Philippines. Cebuano is also spoken in some provinces in Bicol and Southern Tagalog particularly Palawan and Masbate. We would like to invite every Cebuano-speaking Filipinos in British Columbia, including second language speakers, to join our community and let us unite to promote our ethnicity and culture.

OUR OBJECTIVES

1. To promote the language and culture of Cebuano-speaking Filipinos

2. To build a strong community of Cebuano-speaking Filipinos in British Columbia

3. To help our members in times of needs.

4. To act as a charitble institution to provide assistance to our brothers and sisters in the Philippines in times of calamities.
